Simon Upton could think that I was a stalker. He may well think Tat is his own personal fan account. He wouldn't be too far wrong. I can't count the number of times I have written 'photography by Simon Upton' under another picture of a home that I have 'grammed' (ugh..apologies for that verb).
This is no surprise. He has been behind the lens for over 25 years, and in that 25 years, he has worked for some of the biggest names in publishing including World of Interiors, House & Garden & Architectural Digest. While of course his work with those interiors mags are more my jam, he has also shot some big-ticket names such as Jeremy Irons, Mark Rylance & Lenny Kravitz. However, my particular favourite is his shots of the late Deborah Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. An exquisite shot of her sitting on her chintz sofa, feet up, in her leopard print cardi and framed by a homely yet, unsurprisingly, grand room - it is quite marvellous.
No one would blame you for thinking that Simon Upton would have little time for anything but magazines. Thankfully he has managed to crowbar a few books into his globetrotting schedule. His most recent being 'New York Interiors' (released on the 30th September), where 'renowned interiors photographer Simon Upton turns his camera on one of his most-loved destinations, with this personal selection of private homes in New York City & beyond.' As it has been a mighty long time since I know anyone who has been able to get over to the US, this will help us, Island dwellers, to have a good bite of the Big Apple.
As ever, I am utterly over the moon that Simon agreed to take part in Tete a Tat!
