By God, she’s done it again. Blue Firth, long-time contributor to Tat London, has a knack for bringing to the surface things that should be so firmly under my nose that I always feel faintly embarrassed not to have known them already, and yet entirely grateful for the introduction. After her essential primer on the work of Lucinda Lambton, she has now made the imperative connection to one of the greatest television presenters of all time, Jonathan Meades.

Blue Firth. You will know the name if you have spent any time with Tat. She is the creative force behind Dohm Shop she also, very generously, writes for us. Before getting to her Christmas list it is worth pausing on her contribution. She sees the world slightly off to one side, in the best possible way, and it means she notices things most of us step straight past.

I’m trawling Rightmove, as usual. I have to say that Nottinghamshire isn’t currently serving up the most inspiring housing stock in my price range. Cities built in the Industrial Revolution and battered by WW2 bombs or unsightly ring roads don’t tend to have an abundance of bucolic charm. I divert my search to Herefordshire, or Suffolk, or the Highlands and Islands. I over-dramatically lament.
