A delicate pencil and watercolour on vellum depicting a tranquil Italian pastoral scene, in which a rustic stone arch bridge spans a shallow rocky stream in the foreground, while a gently rolling hillside leads the eye toward a small cluster of buildings, a square tower, a domed chapel, and cypress trees typical of a small Italian borgo, with mountains receding softly into a pale atmospheric sky. The muted palette of grey-blues, warm ochres, and earthy greens lends the composition a quiet, contemplative mood characteristic of the veduta tradition popular among Italian and Grand Tour artists of the period.
