Framed Photographic Print, Portrait of a Young Sitter, Lars Gustafsson

Portrait of a Young Sitter Lars Gustafsson Photographic print, 1989 Monogrammed “L.G.” and dated “89”, lower right 15.5 x 11.5 cm (framed 41 x 31 cm)

A young face emerges from deep shadow, gazing to one side, with a pale bow tied at the collar. The image is soft and grainy, and its edges fade into cool blue-grey tones, so the sitter seems to appear out of the darkness. Gustafsson gives the portrait the hushed, timeless quality of an early photograph, leaving the subject’s thoughts a quiet mystery.

If you know the exact process (for example, photogravure, gum print or toned silver print), I can swap it in for “photographic print”.
