Swedish Table Lamp, 20th Century

Table Lamp Nittsjö, Sweden Glazed ceramic with brass fittings, 20th century

This compact lamp base has a rounded, spinning-top shape and is covered in a deep cobalt-blue glaze. Bands of stamped leaf-and-vine decoration circle the body, and its brass collar and lampholder add a warm contrast. Nittsjö, a ceramics works in Rättvik in the Dalarna region of Sweden, was known for practical wares with a strong sense of Swedish folk tradition. This lamp combines both: everyday design with simple, handcrafted ornament.
