'Just 24 years old Siegmund Paul Meyer left his native city of Nuremberg and started his career as a salesman for a ceramic company located in Bayreuth. In 1896 he bought a porcelain painting workshop. After three years in 1899 Meyer decided to start a porcelain factory Porzellanfabrik Siegmund Paul Meyer, which initially employeed 100 workers. The best known product of the factory was the ovenproof cookware "Walküre".The factory managed to survive harsh market conditions caused by WWI and Great Depression. In 1926 it was transformed into a limited liability company Erste Bayreuther Porzellanfabrik Walküre Siegmund Paul Meyer G.m.b.H. Founder was joined by his son, Rudolf. Production continued even during WWII with just one year break till Spring 1946. In 1966 the management was joined by another member of a family, Rudolf Meyer junior. The history has ended in 2020. No investor was found for the insolvent company. The district court of Bayreuth has approved bankruptcy of the 121-year-old porcelain factory. The porcelain market in 2020 was thought to be difficult and the Bayreuth company as too small, and thus not viable. Before bankruptcy the company, mainly produced dishes for hotels and restaurants in Germany and abroad.
