Artist Biography
Curt Agthe (1862-1943) was a German genre and landscape painter born in Berlin, the son of piano maker Oscar Agthe. His artistic education included training at the Berlin Academy under history painter Anton von Werner and teachers Max Michael and Eduard Hildebrandt. Agthe's classmate was Felix Borchardt. From 1891 to at least 1939, he was a member of the Berlin Artists' Association and exhibited his works regularly around the turn of the century. In 1937, his painting "Pergola in Anacapri" was featured at the Great German Art Exhibition. Agthe passed away in 1943 and was buried in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
