A Pair of Pewter Candlesticks, 1920s

A well-proportioned pair of early 20th-century pewter candlesticks (1925) with two upturned arms rising from a gently tapering stem, set on a broad circular foot. The surfaces are lightly hammered throughout, giving a soft, worked texture that catches the light without ever feeling showy.

Each candlestick is inscribed to the foot, dated 1925, suggesting either a commemorative origin or a presentation piece rather than anonymous production. The form sits somewhere between late Arts and Crafts and early modern restraint, practical but considered, with just enough flourish in the scroll handles and shaped drip pans.

Pewter from this period is often overlooked, but pieces like these show its appeal at its best: durable, quietly handsome, and entirely unpretentious. They work equally well on a dining table, mantel or shelf, and feel particularly good paired with tall, unfussy candles.

Height approximately 22 cm.
