An oval wall light of considerable charm, the leaded surround encasing a hand-painted glass panel depicting a sailing vessel in open water, the rigging taut against a billowing sky of cumulus cloud. The scene is rendered with evident skill, the artist capturing both the drama of the open sea and the particular quality of light breaking through cloud onto water.
Wall lights of this type were produced in Britain and continental Europe during the 1920s and 1930s, combining the craft traditions of stained glass with a taste for pictorial domestic lighting.
