Hammered and pierced brass with parchment diffuser
This wall light exemplifies the refined metalwork of Märta Rockström-Lindh and her husband Alf Lindh, members of the Arvika Konsthantverk cooperative in Värmland. The conical shade, hand-cut and chased in brass, depicts an animated interplay of cats and owls within a swirling foliate design. When lit, the parchment backing transforms the silhouette into a warm, amber tableau, revealing the Lindhs’ sensitivity to both form and illumination.
Their work followed the tradition established by Lisa “Kopparlisa” Andersson-Morell, combining expressive repoussé technique with a distinctly Scandinavian sense of storytelling. Pieces such as this demonstrate how Swedish craft in the mid-20th century balanced folk narrative with modern design, transforming domestic objects into sculptural works of art.
