Mabos Tenn, Sweden
Sture’s Pitcher – Hiking Prize in Pentathlon, 1946
Pewter, glass (interior), five-piece set

This striking five-sided pewter vessel, produced in 1946 by the Swedish firm Mabos Tenn, was awarded as Sture’s Pitcher – Hiking Prize in Pentathlon, suggesting its role as a commemorative or ceremonial object for a sporting event that combined physical endurance with a sense of camaraderie. The engraved dedication and unusual form imply a uniquely Swedish blend of humour, design, and tradition.

Architecturally octagonal in form and crowned with a stylised pelican finial, the piece is surrounded by five suspended conical bells, each hanging from a simple articulated arm. Both sculptural and functional, it merges the formal qualities of mid-century Scandinavian design with a light-hearted, celebratory spirit.
