Motifs of Axel Oxenstierna and Gustav II Adolf - Early 20th Century
Engraved pewter, framed.Frame approx. 38 x 47 cm.
This engraved pewter panel depicts King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden (1594–1632), a celebrated national figure remembered for his military campaigns and the establishment of Sweden as a European power. The composition, dated Anno 1698, echoes 17th-century commemorative folk tinwork but was likely produced during the early 20th century, when Scandinavian artists and craftsmen revived historical and vernacular decorative traditions.
The work combines historicist ornament with a modern precision of tooling, creating a reflective homage to the craftsmanship and national pride of an earlier era.
