A spirited pen and ink drawing depicting mythological scene, the swirling forms suggesting a serpentine or elemental force of considerable drama. The draftsmanship is energetic and assured, conveying movement and tension with considerable economy.Signed lower right. The mount bears the artist's name in a later hand below the image.Fritz von Dardel was a Swedish artist, diplomat and diarist, known for his lively sketches and watercolours documenting Swedish society and his extensive travels throughout the nineteenth century. His work is held in numerous Scandinavian public collections. A small work but a characterful one, with the unmistakable confidence of a practised and gifted draughtsman.
