A small but assured pastel by Gösta Werner (1909–2009), a Swedish artist and filmmaker whose work often moved between figuration and abstraction. Werner was part of a generation exploring modernist ideas in Sweden, and this piece reflects that interest in structure and rhythm. Built up through blocks of colour and confident linear marks, the composition has a quiet energy, held together by a careful sense of balance rather than strict order. The softened edges of the pastel give it a slightly atmospheric quality, offset by the more graphic black forms.
