A characteristic and quietly compelling still life by one of Sweden's most celebrated post-war graphic artists. A coffee pot, bowl and small glass are arranged on a boldly patterned checkerboard cloth, the composition set against a dramatic ground of deep black and warm ochre that floods the image with a painterly, almost theatrical light. Von Schantz was known for his precisely observed depictions of everyday objects, rendered with a single vanishing point that causes the image to spread across the surface with a distinctive, almost hypnotic geometry.
