The Little Grey Cells Have Solved Many Case On Burgh Island

Films and interiors go hand in hand. They are so closely connected that many of us will have been touched by a film in such a way that it creeps into our lives and our own interiors. I am constantly bewildered by love from my sojourns in the cinema.


Most recently I watched Phantom Thread, an extraordinarily glorious film in which any lover of interiors would have their breath snatched away by each of the opening scenes. But it was the final scenes that convinced me this article was a winner. The couple sit in a kitchen—a kitchen so perfectly constructed, with its timber fire and a slightly battered coolie shade- that I found myself believing the perfect kitchen might not be so hard to find after all. You simply need the keys to Owlpen Manor and, hey presto, you’re living in my Paul Thomas Anderson dream. While those keys may be out of reach, the promise of staying nearby is not: the estate has several houses available to rent, and if you’re inclined to go further, you can even host a party there.


It got us thinking about all the other sites you could visit straight from the silver screen. So Charlotte Becque has put together one hell of a list—enough to make any cinephile-interiors lover grab their suitcase and set off in search of the great movie sets.
