I believe you may be well aware of my fondness for parties. They don’t need to lead anywhere specific — I just like planning them. If I were ever to change careers, event planning would be the obvious choice. When I was designing my wedding in 2019, it felt like second nature. I knew exactly what I wanted: the venue, the look, the atmosphere.

However far my school days recede in the rear-view mirror, I can’t help but greet September with a mix of trepidation, a touch of anxiety, and a healthy dose of excitement. The world seems to ready itself for a new chapter: plays, films, talks, and auctions are all back on the menu.

Recently, I saw a masterpiece. It was a cake. A cake on a table — a simple enough affair — but my God, the human race has made moves in the cake-making department. Cakes and AI we have really come leaps and bounds. Decorum, empathy, and architecture? Not so much. Still, let us raise a whisk to these bakers, these masters of flour, who’ve created sugar-laced masterpieces that might delight even the most curmudgeonly of dieticians.

I really don’t want to brag, but I’m quite happy to in this case — not on my own behalf, but on behalf of the UK and the marvellous things it has lined up for July. We, I hope, are set for a beautiful month, and there’s certainly no shortage of ways to fill those sunny days. Whether it’s the Soho Fête, the Spotlight Market, or Paxton House’s Antiques Weekend, Charlotte Becque has winkle-picked these glorious activities for your enjoyment.

We are here to celebrate the old — a noble pursuit, and one far too overlooked in this age of relentless novelty. Ours is a culture besotted with the new, the youthful, the fleeting — and frankly, I find it all rather exhausting. My affection for old furniture is much like my passion for vintage clothing: both are marvels of craftsmanship, fashioned to endure, made by the deft hands of artisans whose talents have long since slipped from memory.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a person in possession of a Wi-Fi connection must be in want of a better working environment. The great promise of remote work — all sun-dappled mornings, creative freedom, and the gentle clink of a teaspoon in a homemade cup of tea — has, for many, curdled. We are not so much working from home as waiting for Zoom.

Finding the right white paint is tricky but crucial; it transforms spaces, making the search and frustration absolutely worth it.

So, this is a little out of my remit. I admit it — I’m no fashion journalist or aficionado, but stay with me. Do you know how many fashion people end up in interiors? Quite a few. I’ve long suspected that those in fashion treat the interiors industry as something of a golden parachute.

While the great gods of tech would rather we spend our lives scrolling, detached from friends, daylight, and the satisfying use of our hands, we at Tat remain stubbornly analogue at heart. In defiance of the algorithm, we’ve rounded up a selection of spring and summer courses to lift the spirits and tickle the brain — even if only for an afternoon.

June - what a lovely month it is. We’re now in full swing of spring, revelling in those long, lovely days. We must savour every slice of sunshine that comes our way, lifting our faces from those ghastly screens, yes, even the one you’re reading this on.
