Twenty-Eight Stately Homes To House Your Next Shindig
Whether it is a wedding, a birthday or just a look,
these homes will delight even the most staunch introverts.
September 2025
I believe you may be well aware of my fondness for parties. They don’t need to lead anywhere specific, I just like planning them. If I were ever to change careers, event planning would be the obvious choice. When I was designing my wedding in 2019, it felt like second nature. I knew exactly what I wanted: the venue, the look, the atmosphere. Imagine a colourful village fête, complete with a Ferris wheel, fairground games, food trucks, a tombola, face painting, and a variety of music. Sadly, it never came to pass thanks to COVID. Instead, we were married at a registry office on Marylebone Road, which saved us a fair amount of money. Ultimately the result was the same: we are husband and wife.
You can probably see why I drift into imaginary scenarios. Since I never had the chance to stage that dream fête, I think about it more often than is reasonable. And with most of my friends now married, weddings seem to have slipped off the agenda.
So here’s my reasoning for this slightly miscellaneous content. I know weddings aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and even I, a self-confessed enthusiast, have questioned the entire concept after scrolling through hundreds of venues. I blame bad wedding photography, the fixation on white dresses, and drones. Did you even tie the knot if you don’t have a 100 drone shots of the venue?
But hear me out: you may know someone planning a little shindig, or perhaps a niece or nephew about to embark on theirs. And for most of us, the real draw is admiring beautiful old houses. That’s what all of the venues below have in common. Like our Airbnb finds, these aren’t the standard wedding venues with all the bells and whistles. Many are houses sustained by the wedding industry, others are simply places I find utterly beautiful. Realistically, there should be something here to pique your interest.
This is the house that started all of this off. It just yells fun.
