My Selection Of The Dreamiest Houses In The UK For £2million & Under, May 2026
I realise I give this explanation each month, but it feels important to clarify what exactly we are doing here, lest you mistake this for sensible property journalism. We are combing the internet for houses that make us want to abandon our lives with minimal admin. Houses that suggest, however falsely, that one could simply arrive with a box of pictures, a decent few lamps and begin a better existence by Thursday.
I will admit many of the houses come in the form of country manors or cottages, sat within fields far from the madding crowd. That is because my dreams differ greatly from my Shepherd’s Bush reality. They are not realistic dreams. They come with Georgian manors, or former almshouses stitched together, gargantuan parties on lawns, and summers spent in deck chairs drinking warmed rose - yes my perpetual dream is to live in the 1920s.
I rarely check the nearest station, the EPC rating, or, most crucially for many of you, the schools. These are not homes selected with a mortgage broker in mind. They are houses for daydreaming about while eating toast at your desk. Houses that make you briefly believe your future may yet involve an aga and wood shed.
