What I realise we sometimes lack at Tat are the cold, hard facts. We’re all about theories, ideas, and beauty—but sometimes, that’s not enough. As you know, I’m very keen to make this membership work for you, and occasionally, these articles will be here to help you navigate big decisions or at least give you a rough understanding of the costs involved in major undertakings.

I, for one, have never bought a kitchen. When I moved into my house, we painted the doors and added some truly ugly handles, chosen, god love him, by my builder. I know, I know, it was a stressful time, and I just wanted to get the job done. Two years later, I can’t say I love it, but by God, we saved some money, and it’s a very good kitchen that hasn’t let me down yet.

That said, I realise this isn’t the advice everyone needs. Sometimes, a new kitchen is a must, and that’s where the costs below and the companies listed might come in handy. Charlotte, my trusty colleague, has reached out to each company with the below email

Hi,

I hope you're doing well.

I'm currently gathering quotes and was wondering if you could provide me with an estimate for a standard or shaker-style kitchen. Specifically, I’d love to get a sense of the starting price or the most cost-effective option you offer.

For context, I’m looking at a U-shaped layout with the following dimensions:

10'6" (3.2m) x 10'2" (3.15m)

If you could give me a rough idea of pricing based on this, that would be really helpful. No need for anything too detailed at this stage—just a ballpark figure would be great.

Let me know if you need any more details, and thanks in advance for your time. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Best,

Charlotte sent this to around twenty eight companies receiving varying quotes all detailed below.
