The Home Designers Visit When They're Done With Milan Design Week, May 2026
While all the crowds this year at Milan Design Week seemed happy to wait for hours in lines to see something they had already experienced countless times through the lens of Instagram, I went to see an apartment which would surely epitomise the true heart of design and collecting, Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano. It was in 2024 when I first went to experience this beloved house museum. We were told about it after having toured the length and breadth of Milan Design Week and we wanted what some might call a palette cleanser. Enter Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano, the former home of Antonio Boschi and Marieda Di Stefano, a monument to collecting.
Antonio was a young man who had survived the horrors of the Great War. He was an engineer with an inherent passion for music and art, but it wasn't until a fateful holiday to Valsesia, known as the greenest valley in Italy, where he met his future wife, Marieda Di Stefano. Marieda came from a family with a deep appreciation for the arts, and it was this grounding that helped them follow their passion. Marieda was a ceramicist, while Antonio maintained his position as a technical engineer. They lived in an apartment block built by her father, who was developing properties all around Milan for the new bourgeoisie; he enlisted the talents of Piero Portaluppi to design the building. After marrying in 1927, they moved into Via Jan 15 on its completion in 1931, and it was here that their collection started to take shape.
