Inside Dorich House, the Extraordinary Home Dora Gordine and Richard Hare Built, October 2026
Open House always helps me discover a new corner of London. One year it was Howard Hodgkin's studio in central London, which was every bit as exciting as it sounds, and this year I thought it would be jolly to take my husband and son to see Dorich House, on the other side of Putney Bridge and then some.
It was a trip of many parts. I was advertising it as a fun family day out, a façade that slowly crumbled as the traffic grew ever more horrendous the further south we went. I had found a place for a marvellous brunch to start the day; it was, of course, closed for a family engagement. Lastly, I suggested a jaunt around Richmond Park, a glorious place but useless when you're confined to a buggy. So by the time we finally made it to Dorich House, the mood was low and I wasn't hopeful of regaining any team spirit.
