Field Notes: Twenty Cultural Festivals Across the UK

June 2025

All Together Now

With festival season upon us, we thought we’d highlight a few that might not be on the tip of your tongue. There’s a charming one down in Somerset, held at Worthy Farm — very easy to get tickets, not at all overwhelming in size… I joke, of course. We all know the famous Glastonbury and it has no reason to be on this list.

Instead, we're after something a little different: festivals that offer a mix of music, food, perhaps a talk or two — and ideally not too crowded. Yes, we’ve entered middle age and want a cold glass of white wine, a good selection of music, and if Alain de Botton happens to be whirring away in the background, well, that sounds like a perfectly pleasant day out.

Don’t get us wrong — there’s fun to be had in all of the below. Different kinds of fun. Some late-night dancing, some (wild) swimming, but all with an element of escape, which in this day and age feels sorely needed. We want to see accountants downing rosé, glitter on their cheeks, and lawyers happily gobbling truffle chips with suspect spectacles perched on the end of a rather rouged nose.

Come one, come all, and experience the delight of the UK festival — rain, wind, and sun. The Brits know how it’s done.
