As my preferences dictate, the houses below lean towards the 18th and 19th centuries, so many of you won’t be surprised by this month’s twenty-five. The selection looks even more like a fictional Middlemarch than usual, owing to a lack of London homes; that’s because I’ve put together a London-only list in a separate article.

So please be swept up by these rather bucolic choices. The hero property you see in the lead image sits at number 13. I have always loved the Kent coast, and a majestic proposition such as this would surely win me over. If I were being rather more modest, though, number 5 is a thrilling prospect, although I might need to put in a hefty offer for the furniture too. They’ve done rather a good job, and I doubt I’d manage it better.

This place finds itself on the list as it could be the perfect spot for a family compound.
