Antiques That Have Caught My Eye, 26th September 2025

Antique furniture collage on brown: chair, lamp, framed art. Text reads "Antiques That Caught My Eye." Objects in various styles.

Here we have 30 or so antiques. I say ‘or so’ because I never bother numbering them and tend to lose track. To ward off any claims of false advertising – and to keep the litigious at bay – let that be your warning. On the brighter side, there’s a good load of beautiful things for your peepers to digest.

I must call your attention to the Georgian rummers from Max Rollitt. If I were a rich man, these are the sort of gifts I’d bestow on dear friends – as I would the Lucy Rie cup and saucer. Forget your gruesome Dolce & Gabbana quilts (£1,600) or, a lesser evil but still a conspicuous staple in the homes of the ultra-wealthy, the Hermès blanket (£1,660). Why anyone would choose either over a piece of ceramic history, I cannot fathom.

Other pieces of note: a new lamp we’ve just had in – a handmade brass serpent lamp, quite spectacular and, as far as I can tell, one of a kind. The escritoire from Kernow Antiques reminds me of one I have at home. It’s added real heft to the rhythm of the room without being exceptionally expensive.

One would be hard-pushed to find a more mesmerising piece of furniture than the daybed from Adam Bray – what a terrific green. Lastly, I’ll leave you with the Deco Dinanderie vase from Ancien et Jolie, a heavenly piece that I imagine will catch the light in a masterful way.
