Little Pie Hoi An

I came across the Instagram of littlepie.hoian on one of those hideous days when your eyes have glazed over, and to the outside world, you could be mistaken for a zombie, but hey presto, your thumb is still bobbing up and down on the screen. Thankfully, this zombified stupor led to the discovery of Little Pie Hoian, the home of Pham Minh Tuan and their family in Vietnam. I don't think it would take much for you to see why I thought this place was absolutely charming and needed a spot on Knock Knock. Not only did I delight in the interiors, but I was also charmed by the fact that you can stay there yourself. So perhaps not only will you enjoy the heavenly interiors, but maybe this will ignite a flame to travel to Hoi An and visit it yourself.

Knock Knock With Pham Minh Tuan

Located in the central region of Vietnam by the sea, our house is nestled in a village renowned for its vegetable cultivation. Seven years ago, during a visit to Hoi An, we dreamed of living here. We took possession of the house in 2021 and spent a year renovating, involving ourselves in every detail and infusing our work with love. We modified major structures and refreshed the entire house with a coat of white paint, focusing on economical and effective methods.

The centrepiece of the house is a swimming pool, flanked by two blocks and surrounded by a garden. Our house, adjacent to a river, enjoys cool, breezy air and a thriving ecosystem. Each morning, the melody of birdsong awakens us, continuing throughout the day. This place is ideal for those who delight in watching clouds and observing nature's rhythms.

We predominantly used cement to create curved, sometimes uneven lines that give the house a softer, more flowing, and freer feel. The lines and walls, hand-stroked with care, embody our affection. After finishing the structural work, we focused on infusing the house with soul and warmth to transform it into a home. As lovers of vintage items, we furnished our home with second-hand pieces and handcrafted most of the wooden furniture.

We carefully selected a variety of materials to achieve a harmonious feel. Besides wood, I have a fondness for fabrics, particularly linen. I ordered all the house's linen curtains from a local craftsman and hand-printed some using homemade stamps. Fresh flowers, essential to the home's vitality, are always present. I favour wild or naturally-styled arrangements, sometimes gathered from our garden or the village and sometimes purchased from the market, always choosing seasonal wildflowers. I also have a passion for collecting old vases, especially those with historical significance in Vietnam.

Over time, we've transformed our property into a lush green sanctuary. Living here is truly a blessing for us.
