Twenty or so homes that we would happily spend our lottery winnings on.
After a bit of a summer pause, we’re back with Dream Homes — the working title here at Tat. These are the houses we’d scoop up if the lottery came through for us. Realistically, it would need to be the Euromillions, as the upkeep alone on many of them would bankrupt most mortals. But why let money spoil the fun?
This is about indulging the fantasy: winters by the fire, summers spent somersaulting across perfectly mown lawns. Sickening, yes — but these daydreams make life feel a little lighter. We picture ourselves in Georgian rectories, plotting glorious communal living with not a hint of a cult in sight.
I know very little about the property market as a whole, though I often hear the doomsayers declaring it’s in the doldrums. Yet from what I’ve seen, plenty of places have been snapped up over the past month — and, for reasons I can’t quite explain, that makes me oddly happy. I suppose it’s the forever-hopefulness that somewhere along the line, a dash of Tat might be called for.
Beyond being a glorious proposition, I wanted this property purely for the sofa in the bedroom, perfectly placed to look out to the coast.
