Excellent Advice For Those Starting Out On Their Kitchen Journey

June 2025

We asked some seriously stellar people what they have learned from creating their very own superb culinary caves.

If you caught the end of our last feature on curtains, you may have seen my small shout-out asking if anyone had a particular topic they'd like me to tackle. One hand went up, and the request was about kitchens. Natalie Tilbury asked, ‘If you're ever in the mood to write about a creative approach to kitchens, I'd be grateful.’

Sadly, I am never in the mood. I also have very little personal experience with the whole kitchen refurb saga. When we moved into our new house, we tried to rip out as little as possible. We wanted to be as environmentally conscious as we could manage (it also happened to be the cheapest option). So we painted the cupboards and changed the handles. Hardly groundbreaking stuff.

Not wanting to let Natalie down, we enlisted a few Tat acquaintances whose kitchens (and work) we greatly admire, to share the clever ideas that helped them along in their kitchen journeys. Without bragging, I will say: they delivered, and then some. Enjoy.
