As ever we have brought you a mixed bag of goods. By mixed I mean they all have a quality, a beauty, a delight, but of course some are more highly regarded than others. That is, of course, what makes Tat London kick

Have you seen the cost of clothes lately? Or heaven forbid, the price of dinner out? One practically needs a small inheritance just to order a main course. No, you may not be splashing £500 on frocks and foie gras, but even so, it’s all getting rather absurd. So why not put that money somewhere it will actually last? Clothes fade, meals vanish, but art will stay with you — delighting the eye, nourishing the soul, and making your home all the nicer.

While I take the briefest moment away from Tat, I’ve asked a few people I admire to contribute some articles—ensuring the smooth running of this great vessel remains on course. The destination, as ever: intrigue and beauty.

My rule for weddings has always been: if they’re abroad, then — sadly for the couple — my presence is the present. I’ve never felt bad about it. If you’re asking me to browse a gift list while we’re simultaneously booking flights, hotels and taxis, you’ll understand why I won’t be clicking. And when you actually look at the tat that ends up on most wedding lists, I find myself quite bereft — reluctant to put my name to any of it.

A rather eclectic bunch we have here — but variety is that very spice of life we hear so much about. I, of course, adore all the pieces below and would find a place for each, given half the chance. Yes, the house might end up looking like a marvellous hullabaloo, but I don’t think there are enough of those homes these days.

Antiques are always fitting, but let’s be clear. In a week where craft is being celebrated, antiques deserve centre stage. Just look at the craftsmanship below.
